Home Video Cinematography Techniques for Using Your Digital Camcorder
Most home videos are now made with digital camcorders. You're better off using the same since because they are
like driving cars with automatic shift rather than manual ones. Check out the following cinematography tips
below to maximize the features of your digital camcorder.
Tip #1 Giving Your Video a Cozy Feeling
A cold touch is good for filming documentaries and maybe even horror films, but it's not if you're aiming
for tearjerkers or even romantic comedies. To warm up the atmosphere of your home video, change the white balance
settings of your digital camcorder. If you're shooting outdoors, sunlight can actually make your video look colder
so make sure to set your white balance to cloudy. A cloudy setting would decrease the intensity and brightness
levels while highlighting the warm tones of your target.
Tip #2 Digital cameras can make use of filters, too.
It's true, but they make use of an alternative to filters rather alike sunglasses, for instance. Filters reduce
the glare of sunlight and other undesirable reflections and effects of lighting. Polarizer, one of the various
kinds of filters, can make your video look richer, emphasizing the effects you've already achieved with the first
tip.
Sunglasses work like a polarizer. Just place them in front the lenses of your digital camcorder as close as possible. Check your LCD
screen to ensure that the frame of your sunglasses doesn't show.
Tip #3 Ghosts are often shown in videos as fuzzy images.
One way of achieving this is by using the zoom option of your digital camcorder. Stay a good distance away from
your subject then start shooting. Use the zoom option until your subjects large enough to have a distinctive shape,
of course, the greater the distance, the less clear your subject will be, and this can make it look fuzzy which is
just perfect for a ghostly sighting!
Tip #4 The flash option of your digital camcorder isn't just there to brighten up the scene.
It can be used to change the mood levels in your video as well. With the fill flash option, a hidden
feature in most digital video equipment, you can choose exactly when your flash bulb goes off. Be diligent in
exploring the various effects of using fill flash and you'll see great improvement resulting in your work!
Cinematography may seem like a fancy word, but it's actually all about getting great shots out of everything.
Persevere and you'll soon perfect the art of cinematography like any other professional!
